10 decorating tips to make a small room appear larger.
1– Light colors make your room look bigger and brighter. Light colored walls reflect more light, making a space feel open and airy.
2–Create the illusion of height, by drawing the eye up., Use vertical lines that lead the eye from the floor up to the ceiling.. if the ceiling appears higher it gives the illusion of breathing space. To do this try; hanging your draperies high to the ceiling and then let them fall all the way to the floor. Or hang art work higher..
3-Move the furniture off the walls and towards the center of the room. Adding air space between the walls and seating areas creates the impression of depth and more room.
4-Clutter makes a small space feel cramped. Organize your things and keep them out of sight. The space that is visible will feel open & orderly. A cluttered room feels smaller.
5-Keep the furniture’s scale small. Instead of large over stuffed upholstered chairs and sofas, and solid bulky side tables or bureaus , go with a smaller footprint. Look for slimmed-down versions of furniture & less solid bulky tables. Leggy tables & less bulky furniture allows you to see through them to the walls and floor. It will give an open, less boxed in feeling. Keep your
furnishings, in proportion to the room.
6-Avoid creating Visual Obstacles. Anything that stops the movement of the eye around the room, will limit the illusion of spaciousness. Try using unifying color. Tables with glass topped tables disappear visually. Anything that stops the eye in its movement around the room will register as a boundary or border that limits space. Eliminate the obstacles, and you enhance the sense of limitedness. . Keep accessories to a minimum because clutter makes a room feel cramped, closed in.
Unifying color is one means of eliminating limits; glass is another. A glass topped
coffee table virtually disappears.
7–Make the most of your windows, they enlarge a room because the eye travels beyond the walls. Maximize that effect by leaving windows bare or if you need the privacy have blinds or shades that can be closed in the daytime.
8-While it’s helpful to keep accessories and
window treatments to a minimum The eye needs a place to rest too, and that’s where focal points come in. Well chosen and placed art work can be a great focal point.
9-Make use of wall space. In a small bedroom with no room for side tables, use a wall mounted shelf for your side table. Use wall mounted lamps.
10-Large mirrors expand the sense of space by reflecting views and light. Mirrors reflect light & bounce it deep into the room. The room looks larger as a result.

About Myself & My Approach
Art has always played a role in my life, in one form or another. by my teens I had narrowed my focus to painting. I decided I was going to become a serious painter. I joined the Las Vegas Artist's Guild at 15, the youngest member at that time. I was completely out of place, I tried to go unnoticed, a mute fly on the wall, with a big smile pasted on my face.
I've continued to paint most of my life.
After a move to Oregon years later, I was introduced to quilting and fell in love.
I was introduced to quilting & fell in love.
In time I missed the creative freedom painting made possible.
Then I discovered mixed media fiber art, I was home.
MY APPROACH TO ART
It's the creative process that holds the greatest attraction for me. Starting with a tiny seed of an idea; vague and blurred around the edges, I follow where that leads. There are often many changes and adjustments along the way. The result can often be surprizing.
My approach is an instinctual one. Generally, I do little pre-planning. I make creative decisions, choices, directions as they present themselves.
This approach can lead to quite a few changes in the direction.
I love that element of surprize!
Sometimes I have one that I especially like, I can't wait to show someone.
At that moment l feel like a six year old, running home from school, a drawing in hand, excited to show Mom. At those times. I'm smiling like the Cheshire cat.
I’ve had some of my work published in several magazines. which is exciting. But the most gratifying thing is having clients be really happy with their purchased art quilt.
