The Internet, A Shrinking World and Connecting With Hollyhock Lovers Everywhere!

An new owner of one of my art quilts found an interesting benefit in hanging fiber art.
An art quilt could add a level of comfort, I can see how it would feel more like home and less like an office. When she mentioned it, I thought of how comforting it was as a child, being wrapped in Grandma’s quilt. It would also block out the sounds of a noisy city, much more relaxing.

A Whole Lot Of Flowers!

What I found in making these, was that each new project you begin,, no matter how many spools of thread, or amounts of fabric that you own, there will always be at least one or more necessary colors that you don’t have. I needed a huge variety in the shades of red, Thus began the great “thread quest’, I can’t fathom that out of my entire collection of thread, massive as it is, I couldn’t find the exact shades of red that I wanted. Unbelievable, and I will provide pictures to impress upon you just how unbelievable this is..When I say that I have a massive stock of thread , enough to open my own store, it is no exaggeration.

Change is Good, Growth and New Beginnings.

I’m already thinking of fall, and the changes which it brings. That theme is behind my latest landscape art quilt, “Change, New Beginnings”. Wow, “time really does fly”, as the old adage goes! It becomes more evident and rings truer with each passing year. Change is inevitable, but with each change of season, we’re given a fresh start, of sorts. “I didn’t get to that last fall, but this year I’m going to….”. It’s up to us, the slate is clean, we can do the things which nagged away at us this past year. The changing of the seasons offers an opportunity for renewal. It’s a good time for change. Use it wisely because time really does fly!

A Feature in Art Quilting Studio Magazine

My issue of Art Quitting Studio has arrived.I’m in it. Just opened it up, thumbed through a few pages and there I was! Who’d a thunk it? A whole article, a 1 & 1/2 page feature. I’m buying several copies, before they change their minds.
I need someone to slap me across the face and say, “Get a hold of yourself woman”.IT’S HERE, IT’S HERE! My issue of Art Quitting Studio has arrived. And they weren’t kidding me, I’m in it. Just opened it up, thumbed through a few pages and there I was! Who’d a thunk it? A whole article, a 3 page feature. .

Cherry Blossoms, It’s Raining Pink!

“It’s Raining Pink”. This art quilt is from the perspective of looking up the trunk of an old twisted cherry tree. It carries the scars gained from many years. As you look up you see a cloud of pink above. Your eyes follow the slow drift of a pink petal as it finally reaches the ground below your feet, that is covered with pink. Is it raining pink?

Asian Hand Painted Art Quilt Heron under the moon

This is the 4th in a series of Asian Fusion art quilts. I hand painted the silk used in this piece. I appliqued the heron and other elements on.  Each feather in the heron was appliqued & the result was worth the extra effort. It has an Asian feel but is modern as well. IContinue reading “Asian Hand Painted Art Quilt Heron under the moon”

Silk painted art quilt, Everything Under the Sun

Just posting my latest silk painted art quilt. I love the way silk seems to reflect the color, and I’m all about color, if you haven’t guessed! This is an original hand painted silk art quilt. I hand painted the background fabric and the individual elements. Then I appliquéd them on. The thread painting and quilting add to the designContinue reading “Silk painted art quilt, Everything Under the Sun”

Messy Kitchen produces something pretty good and I don’t mean food!

If you recall a few posts back I had a huge mess in my kitchen hand painting some silk fabric. Here in Oregon it rains a lot so I have limited choices for a paint studio. My little make shift studio tent out side is no longer workable because the downpours have commenced. So to my husband’s dismay the kitchen is myContinue reading “Messy Kitchen produces something pretty good and I don’t mean food!”

TWO PEONIES , POPPIES and a FOXGLOVE a botanical art quilt
