My post for the Blogger’s Quilt Festival”

This is a post for the Blogger’s Quilt Festival” http://amyscreativeside.com/category/bloggers-quilt-festival/ I choose this quilt to blog about because it is meaningful for me in many deeply personal ways. I hesitate to bring this up in a public forum, but many women are going to relate to this, sadly. As a child I had vivid imaginationContinue reading “My post for the Blogger’s Quilt Festival””

“There’s no place like home”

Just got home last night from the long trek to Art in the Park in Las Vegas. Long drive, but enjoyable when going with my quilting buddy Teresa McConachie, who shared the booth with me.     Lots of people, un-characteristic rain, very characteristic wind and high temps. But the rain cooled things down some what.     Here’s some pics ofContinue reading ““There’s no place like home””

A few thoughts from Chrissy O’Donnell Leasher -about art quilting

I have had some discussion via email with Chrissy O’Donnell Leasher about the peculiar position art quilting and fiber art is placed in within the art world. In many ways it is a new &  developing art form. From the beginnings of this movement, the art community has viewed it as more of a craft than an actual art form. Slowly that view hasContinue reading “A few thoughts from Chrissy O’Donnell Leasher -about art quilting”

Sequel to I’m focused and working on those art quilts!

Here’s a couple of new ones. I told you I’m focused and working!!! These 2 are opposites, vibrant and serene, hot and cool, excitement and calm…you get the idea… Another one just in. This is really cool. I started with an awesome batik fabric . The gradient colors seemed to melt from one to theContinue reading “Sequel to I’m focused and working on those art quilts!”

A last longing look at the flowers of summer

This an old post from a few years  ago. After all the sleepless nights, hair pulling and teeth gnashing, not to mention the months it took me, I just let it sit, waiting for someone to put the posts back into their categories. There it has sat … waiting… I’m turning over a new leaf ,s0 you’ll see some older postsContinue reading “A last longing look at the flowers of summer”

TWO PEONIES , POPPIES and a FOXGLOVE a botanical art quilt

I used applique to attach the flowers, which were thread painted to add body and detail.

Here’s the finished art quilt.

Art quilt “Jelly Fish Love” is finished. What a fun custom order.

When I got the request for this custom order for 2 jelly fish featured in an art quilt, I would never have thought of doing a wall hanging with this theme. But the more I thought about the request, the more excited I got about the idea. It was intriguing and interesting, and fun to work out how to go about it. I think that’s part of the enjoyment of creating any sort of art; translating an idea into something concrete. Working out the “how am I gonna do that?” to “I did it and it’s good!!” .

SECOND SKIN FABRIC ART EXHIBIT

I was asked to submit some of my art quilts in a textile art exhibt;  Second Skin Textile Art Exhibit. It is being held in New Hope, Pa at the New Hope Art Gallery Sept 11 – Oct 9th. Here’s a copy of the flyer, with  my art  quilt pictured on the back!

Confessions of a china hoarder, quilts, tea parties and pink.

This is a small tea party for a friend who moved away. It involved making and giving a quilt, of course. I confess, I hoard pretty china, how many sets of china can one person use in a lifetime? The dishes you see here were found in a flea market in England and carried back home in a suitcase. I didn’t break even 1 plate! How’s that for packing?
