Interesting comment I ran across; ” keep in mind that art quilts are still a bargain in the art world — great for the new collector! “.

Art quilting is a reliability  new art form that was initially perceived as a craft rather than ligitiment I came across this post by Clairan Ferrono  that I found to be  very insightful, “Recently many art quilters have been successfully submitting their work to art shows rather than fiber or quilt shows. Over the nearly ten years thatContinue reading “Interesting comment I ran across; ” keep in mind that art quilts are still a bargain in the art world — great for the new collector! “.”

Some progress on thread painting the floral quilt

Worked some more on the quilt in progress, thread painting the flowers. Not done, but it’s coming along. Here’s the progress since last post.               That’s it for now. It;s always so strange to me when I make something and then look at it and say to myself; “Self I like this”Continue reading “Some progress on thread painting the floral quilt”

TWO PEONIES , POPPIES and a FOXGLOVE a botanical art quilt

I used applique to attach the flowers, which were thread painted to add body and detail.

Here’s the finished art quilt.

progress on new quilt and raw edge appliqué tutorial 2

Here’s where we are  so far; the backing . batting and top background are sandwiched  together. I use a spray adhesive 505 Spray And Fix to sandwich everything together.  The parts of the puzzle pieces are in the process of being fused to the quilt sandwich. As you can see there is subtle color variations with the  individual partsContinue reading “progress on new quilt and raw edge appliqué tutorial 2”

I’m focused and working on those art quilts! BONUS!!!A tutorial on raw edge appliqué

Bonus: a tutorial on raw edge appliqué

Art quilt “Jelly Fish Love” is finished. What a fun custom order.

When I got the request for this custom order for 2 jelly fish featured in an art quilt, I would never have thought of doing a wall hanging with this theme. But the more I thought about the request, the more excited I got about the idea. It was intriguing and interesting, and fun to work out how to go about it. I think that’s part of the enjoyment of creating any sort of art; translating an idea into something concrete. Working out the “how am I gonna do that?” to “I did it and it’s good!!” .

Confessions of a china hoarder, quilts, tea parties and pink.

This is a small tea party for a friend who moved away. It involved making and giving a quilt, of course. I confess, I hoard pretty china, how many sets of china can one person use in a lifetime? The dishes you see here were found in a flea market in England and carried back home in a suitcase. I didn’t break even 1 plate! How’s that for packing?

Progress on the art quilt-jellyfish in love

As I promised, I’m updating my progress on the jelly fish art quilt I’m making for a custom order on my etsy site; AsianArtAndQuilts@etsy.com { take a peak}. Some detail done a lot more to do. This is the fun part. Today this is what I’ve done, real progress on the thread painting, this isContinue reading “Progress on the art quilt-jellyfish in love”

Progress of an art quilt

I got a request for a custom quilt from a lovely lady involving jellyfish. She wanted an art quilt with 2 jellyfish featured on it as a wedding gift for a friend who really loves jellyfish. After coming up with design ideas I settled on a direction to go. Ran it by my customer and sheContinue reading “Progress of an art quilt”
